Responsive web design for a law firm

Content precedes design. Design in the absence of content is not design, it's decoration.

Content first, story first. That was the approach of our latest project at Designing Stories.

We’ve been working for three months with a brilliant team of lawyers to produce their story on the web.

The making of their website was a real challenge and key decisions were taken from the very beginning: Christian. The Law Firm had to be responsive and developed with a looking forward approach in terms of markup and styling.

“If the visitors of my website are going to take away only one thing is this one: our founding principles”

At the initial conversation with the director Brendon Christian, I had dozens of questions and many of them had to do with one single interest: what’s the story here?

“If you had the chance to show only one thing in your website, what would that be?”, I said at one point.

The South African lawyer did not need much time to answer: “Our Principles”.

He took a sip of his cappuccino in a nice central London coffee shop and smiled. He was certain: “If the visitors of my website are going to take away only one thing is this one: our founding principles”.

There were several iterations, Brendon changed his mind one or two times about colors, the layout, even the content, but that powerful idea of designing around his firm’s principles never went away.

Kierendeep Chahal, Eleanor Forbes, Priya Naidoo and Brendon ChristianThe result is a website that tells the story of a unique law firm with international ambitions. A team of lawyers that dare to think they can change the world and are not afraid of stating on its website: “we make our mums proud”.

That’s their story and that is the first story produced in 2012 by our small studio Designing Stories Ltd.

We founded this studio to help companies to discover the stories behind their brands and to produce unique online experiences.

We hope we achieved that with Christian.

So far the feedback has been very good. Christian’s founding principles are now being told through a new website that we are proud to share with you.

We designed Christian. The Law Firm as a flexible website and we are still testing and refining the code. If you find any errors when navigating the site, please let us know as soon as possible, otherwise click around and enjoy it!
