Football, technology and a new European player

Collage Los Europeos

A new website called Los Europeos is all about Mexico, or, to be precise, Mexican footballers playing in a far far away continent.

It is a project that was slowly plotted by four brilliant Mexican journalists based in Madrid, Berlin, Amsterdam and Brussels. The team includes a project manager in London.

Their stated mission is to follow and tell the stories of Mexican footballers in Europe.

They have chosen Joomla as a Content Management System and the design is striking. Red and black are the colours that hold all the content together. The image in the banner is simply spectacular and the logo plays beautifully besides the name.

The design is not responsive, so it does not adapt to the huge variety of mobile devices that exist in the market, although I spoke to the director, Jair Muñoz, and he told me that a mobile version is in the pipeline.

According to Muñoz, the enthusiastic business manager of Los Europeos, they are going to use social media as a tool to promote the new site, but increasingly, he said, spaces like Twitter and Facebook will be used to engage and interact with users.

Los Europeos brings the Mexican angle to the coverage that European news agencies normally give to “Chicharito” Hernandez in the England Premier League, to Jonathan Dos Santos in Spain or Ulises Davila in Holland.

They promise original and exclusive stories in and beyond the limits of the football ground.

We welcome this project and we wish them all the success. Football deserves this quality of storytellers, a league apart.
